What is gravure printing and its classification?

Gravure printing is to fill the entire surface of the printing plate with ink, and then use a special scraping mechanism to remove the ink in the blank part, so that the ink only remains in the cells of the graphic part, and then under greater pressure , Transfer the ink to the surface of the substrate to obtain printed matter.

Gravure printing belongs to direct printing.

The types of gravure printing are divided into two categories according to the plate-making method: engraving gravure and etching gravure.

Engraving intaglio

Engraving intaglio is to directly engrave the image and text corresponding to the original text on the surface of the plate cylinder with a cutter.

According to the control method of the carving knife, the pits can be divided into manual engraving intaglio, mechanical engraving and electronic engraving.

(1) Hand-carved intaglio

(2) Mechanical engraving intaglio

(3) Electronic engraving intaglio

The corroded intaglio is made by etching ink pits on the surface of the printing plate cylinder by chemical etching according to the original graphics and text. According to the different methods of manuscript image and text conversion, the corrosion intaglio can be divided into etching intaglio, photo intaglio and dot intaglio.

(1) The etching intaglio is made by a plate-making method that combines engraving and etching. That is, the shape of the original image and text is first hand-carved, and then the intaglio is made by the etching method.

(2) Photogravure is widely used, and it is the most widely used printing plate in gravure printing, mainly used for printing picture plates.

(3) Dot gravure is mainly used for packaging and decoration printing and building materials printing, etc.
